R. Eli Stefansky שליט"א, of Merkaz Daf Yomi (MDY) is a prominent Daf Yomi maggid shiur (and religious influencer/mashpia one might say too, in modern lingo), of late.
I happened to recently hear some thoughts he shared about crazy Meron-רשב"י Lag Baomer obsessions of some, and their danger, followed by some clever humor, via a joke he shared connecting Meron & Kerestir. Worth a listen or watch (click to play).
Enjoy and absorb!
Rabbi Stefansky is absolutely correct. On the Shabbos before Lag Bomer I was in a shul with a Chassidish Rav. His entire Shalosh Seudah Drasha was relating Rashbi miracles. The next day, Sunday, I was in a Chabad shul and the Rabbi explained why it was so important to go to the Ohel on Lag Bomer. Of course he tells the people that they should go to the Ohel 365 days a year. The reason for such phenomena is that most frum Jews don't want to have a relationship with Hashem because He makes demands of us. Last week Rabbi Efren Goldberg challenged Rabbi Manis Friedman for having stated that Mitzvahs are optional and we keep them because G-d has needs and doing those Mitzvahs fulfills His needs. Rabbi Friedman talked his way out and the discussion didn't go anywhere
